teams co-ordinator Chris Tabor from Antworten

CLEVELAND -- Browns coach Mike Pettine hired Jim ONeil as his defensive co-ordinator on Monday, reuniting him with the coach who helped him turn around Buffalos defence last season. Pettine also retained special teams co-ordinator Chris Tabor from Rob Chudzinskis staff. In addition, Pettine plucked assistants Chuck Driesbach (linebackers), Brian Fleury (assistant linebackers coach) and Jeff Hafley (secondary) off the staff he worked on in Buffalo as defensive co-ordinator. Pettine made Brian Angelichio, who spent the past two seasons in Tampa Bay, his tight ends coach and kept Bobby Babich (assistant secondary coach) and Shawn Mennenga (assistant special teams coach) from Clevelands previous staff. ONeil was Buffalos linebackers coach last season, his fifth straight with Pettine. They were together in New York, spending four seasons on Rex Ryans staff with the Jets. Pettines connection with ONeil predates their time in the NFL. ONeil played for Pettines father, Mike Sr., in high school. With the help of Pettine and ONeil, the Bills set a franchise record with 57 sacks, second most in the NFL. Buffalo finished 10th (333.4) in total defence, after finishing 22nd in 2012. Since being hired by Cleveland last week, the 47-year-old Pettine has been busy assembling his staff. He knew he was behind the rest of the league after it took the Browns nearly a month before hiring him as their seventh coach since 1999. Pettine still needs an offensive co-ordinator, and one of the reported top names on his list, former Houston coach Gary Kubiak, was hired by Baltimore on Monday. The Browns have reportedly expressed interest in former Titans offensive co-ordinator Dowell Loggains. He could be hired as co-ordinator or perhaps coach quarterbacks. The 33-year-old Loggains spent six seasons with Tennessee. He was the teams offensive co-ordinator this season, but was not retained by new coach Ken Whisenhunt. Loggains also interviewed with the New York Giants, who hired former Green Bay quarterbacks coach Ben McAdoo as their offensive co-ordinator. Tabor has been with the Browns since 2011 after three years in Chicago. Although head coach Randy Carlyle jokingly wondered how much actual training Bolland got done while in London. "I dont know how much training goes on when you go back to the junior team that you played for so I wouldnt read too much into that," laughed Carlyle after the Maple Leafs were put through an up-tempo practice that concluded with a 10-minute bag skate on Thursday.BALTIMORE -- Ubaldo Jimenezs miserable season worsened Friday when the Baltimore Orioles right-hander was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right ankle. Jimenez twisted his ankle in a parking lot at his apartment complex on Wednesday. "We were looking at it today and its pretty puffy, taped up," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Friday. "We were hoping it would resolve somewhat today. Did not." The move is retroactive to July 6, the day after Jimenez made his last start. Jimenez, 30, was scheduled to pitch against the New York Yankees on Saturday. He will be replaced by either Chris Tillman or Kevin Gausman. Very little has gone right this season for Jimenez after he signed a $50 million, four-year deal during the off-season. Hes 3-8 with a 4.52 ERA overall and 1-4 with a 5.79 ERA at home. Jimenez appeared to be back on track after he gave up an unearned run in eight innings aggainst Texas on June 30.dddddddddddd But he didnt last long in his last start, walking six against Boston before being yanked after 3 2-3 innings. The ankle sprain is not a first for Jimenez. "He had it in 2012," Showalter said. "The only reason I asked him that is I wanted to know how quickly it healed. Anybody whos rolled their ankle, they know once you do it once, it kind of falls on a similar pattern. And he did it pitching. They shut him down the last two or three starts in 2012." By being placed on the DL on Friday, Jimenez gets the benefit of being inactive at the same time the Orioles are on break for the All-Star game. "If it wasnt for the All-Star break, we might wait a couple days," Showalter said. "But its also the same ankle as 2012, and with ankles, Ive learned that you kind of take a look at the history with them. Its a lot weaker every time you put it in peril." ' ' '
