LEXINGTON, Ky. -- ?The University of Kentucky womens soccer team scored two goals inside the first 25 minutes of its home-opening match in front of 1100-plus fans at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex on Thursday night, but the No. 23 South Florida Bulls pegged back three unanswered goals in the final 70 minutes to claim its third-successive win to start the season, 3-2, over Kentucky. With the loss, UK drops to 0-2-1 on the season overall. USF moves to a perfect 3-0-0 on the year. The Wildcats will next play No. 25 Northwestern on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. ET. The game will be shown live on the SEC Network+, ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app with Neil Price and Stuart Pope on the call.Sunday will be Dollar Dog Sunday, where fans can bring their dog to the Bell Soccer Complex, and receive $1 admission. The opening goal of the match was scored by freshman Gina Crosetti, as she put Kentucky ahead 1-0 inside of 11 minutes on her first-career goal. The assist came from fellow freshman Marissa Bosco, who got end line and cut back, serving the ball into the area and allowing Crosetti time to take a touch and fire it into the net with time to spare.Kentucky would double its lead in the 25th minute as Bosco scored her first-collegiate goal to double UKs advantage and make it 2-0. Bosco scored off an over-the-top pass from Kelly Novak, who placed great touch on the ball over the top of the line and Bosco was able to finish it into the back corner for a 2-0 lead.Just 44 seconds later, USF would get one back off a turn and spin at the top of the box, as Evelyne Viens scored first for the Bulls on an unassisted goal to make it 2-1 in the 25th minute. After the halftime break, where UK lead 2-1, the Bulls pulled even in the 53rd minute as Leticia Skeete scored off a free kick from 30 yards out to score the equalizer. The free kick was whipped in from the left side and played across the top of the 18. After an initial clearance by the UK defense, the ball was returned into the top of the arc outside the box, and a turning finish by Skeete made it 2-2.After UK had a chance to make it 3-2 Wildcats off a corner kick that nearly found the back of the net, the Bulls would score the fifth goal of the match, and ultimately the match winner in the 62nd minute off the boot of Jordan Tuttle in her first goal of the season. Tuttle played a nice give-and-go at the top of the box and Veins, who had three points on the night, got the assist.UK had six corners in the match, and nearly scored on two of them - but was unable to find a goal to equalize in the final minutes.Zoe Swift led the Wildcats in shots with four. Tanya Samarzich and Bosco both had three. The Wildcats outshot the Bulls, 16-15, and had three more shots on goals and three more corners.Freshman goalkeeper Evangeline Soucie got the loss in net despite making two saves. On Saturday night, the normally free throw-challenged centre did just that. TULSA, Okla. -- Junior Etou scored 17 points and made two clutch baskets down the stretch that helped Tulsa repel a strong Oregon State rally for a 75-64 win on Tuesday night.Junior college transfer Jaleel Wheeler added 16 points and Sterling Taplin and Pat Birt nine each in matchup of two of last years NCAA Tournament participants which were hit hard by graduation. Tulsa (2-2) shot 45 percent and outrebounded OSU 38-23, led by Etons seven boards.Tres Tinkle scored 19 points for Oregon State (2-3), JaQuori McLaughlin had 12 points and five rebounds and Drew Eubanks added 10 points and five boards.Trailing 37-22 after a tentative first half, Oregon State asserted itself early in the second, opening with a 17-3 run to pull within 40-39 on a 3-pointer by Kendal Manuel.Tulsa regained some control with a 7-0 run by Taplin, who made a 3-pointer, a free throw and then a steal and layup to push the lead back to 53-44. OSU kept chipping away and was within four when Etou answered with a 3-pointer from the left corner, then a layup on a nifty assist from Taplin, giving Tulsa a 67-58 advantage with 2:50 left.I think what we did was we shot quick shots early in the second half, said Tulsa coach Frank Haith. We got out of character on offense in the second half. They have good players and they made some shots, they got their rhythm and they got confidence, but Im proud of how we bowed our backs and didnt falter.Tulsa opened the big halftime lead despite using 12 players and changing lineups constantly. Seven players made at least one 3-pointer in the half, eight scored and Tulsa limited the Beavers to 39 percent shooting (9-23).Im proud of the way we battled back, said OSU coach Wayne Tinkle. They had 25 free throws to eight for us and had a big edge on the boards. We played with much more purpose in the second half and thats the waay we need to play, with passion, energy and purpose.dddddddddddd. I didnt see that in the first half.BIG PICTUREOregon State: The Beavers lost eight players who had played in a combined 622 games at OSU. Oregon State coach Wayne Tinkle admitted he peeled a little paint with his halftime and post-game sermons in reminding his young team of the passion and intensity it needs to demonstrate on a consistent basis. We were acting way too cool, Tinkle said. Thats not how you play at Oregon State and these young guys need to learn that.Oregon State was without guard Stephen Thompson Jr., out with a leg injury.Tulsa: The Hurricane are replacing 10 seniors and have just five players who were on the roster last year, including two who sat out (TK Edogi redshirted and Etou was a transfer from Rutgers). With 10 new players, its all about practicing, working to get better, Haith said. Weve got some high character guys who want to work and its showing.NEWCOMERS COME UP BIGNot only did Wheeler score 16 points, but freshman center Will Magnay replaced Edogi and fellow freshman Martins Igbanu at center for most of the final 10 minutes, making 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch, grabbing four rebounds and coming up with two blocks. Its nice to have the three of them and go with who has the hot hand, Haith said. Will has a big body, knows the game and has a lot of upside. Plus hell be about an 80 percent free throw shooter. Its good to have him in there when theyre fouling to get back in the game.UP NEXTOregon State: returns home for games Friday against Fresno State and Monday against Southern Oregon.Tulsa: visits crosstown rival Oral Roberts Monday. Haiths teams have yet to defeat ORU in two previous meetings. ' ' '
