KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- With the Texas Rangers defense committing three errors in the first three innings, Cole Hamels had to pitch out of some dangerous situations.Hamels allowed one unearned run in 5 1/3 innings, Nomar Mazara and Adrian Beltre homered and the Rangers defeated the Kansas City Royals 7-4 on Saturday night.Hamels, who is 6-1 with a 2.24 ERA in his past nine starts, limited the Royals to five hits, struck out four and walked three. Hamels (11-2) lowered his ERA to 2.87, which is tied for third in the American League.A gritty performance, Rangers manager Jeff Banister said. Obviously, we made it challenging for him with some of the misplays, but he was able to cover them up.The Rangers picked up only their fifth victory in 20 games. Hamels has started three of those victories. Its not too cool here right now, Hamels said of the weather, which had a heat index of 104 degrees for the first pitch. You just try to stay cool. The other guy has got to do it, too. Its just a matter of trying to outlast your opponent. Theyre a good team. Im aware of that. I tried to make pitches when you have to.Mazara homered in the fourth with Jurickson Profar, who had walked, aboard, which was the first hit off Royals starter Yordano Ventura. Mazara, who tops all American League rookies with 25 games with multiple hits and 141 total bases, doubled to center in the fifth, scoring Delino DeShields.Beltre, a career .363 hitter at Kauffman Stadium, hit a three-run homer in the Rangers four-run seventh off Joakim Soria. Ian Desmond singled in the first run of the inning. Soria has allowed six runs in his past two outings and has a 9.72 ERA in his past nine relief appearances.Ventura was struck in the right rib cage by a Beltre laser to end the fifth. After Ventura threw to first base, he collapsed to the ground in pain and was attended to by trainer Nick Kenney. X-rays were negative, but Ventura did not come out for the sixth. Ventura (6-8) gave up three runs on three hits and four walks while striking out five.I got hit in the rib, obviously, and just lost my breath, Ventura said through an interpreter. I was trying to just regain my breath. It hurt at first but I recuperated pretty good.He said he does not anticipate missing a start.Cheslor Cuthbert doubled with one out in the first, extending his hitting streak to a career-best 12 games and took third on Mazaras fielding error. Cuthbert scored on Eric Hosmers groundout for the only run off Hamels. The Royals scored three runs in the ninth on four singles and a bases-loaded walk before Salvador Perez grounded into a double play to end the game. Its a big deficit heading into the last inning, said Hosmer, who drove in a run in the ninth with an infield single. We did a good job of getting to Hamels a little bit, getting him in some situations and getting him out of there early, but it kind of got away from us before we can fire back at their bullpen.RANGERS ADD DUFFYThe Rangers claimed 1B Matt Duffy off waivers from the Astros and assigned him to their Triple-A Round Rock club. Duffy, 27, hit .294 with 20 home runs, 29 doubles and 104 RBI last season with Fresno in the Pacific Coast League. He was hitless in three at-bats this season with Houston.TRAINERS ROOMRangers: LHP Derek Holland, who is on the 60-day disabled list with shoulder inflammation, threw his first bullpen session, 25 pitches, since going on the DL. If he has no setbacks, Holland could begin a minor league rehab assignment in early August.Royals: LHP Mike Minor, who had labrum surgery in 2015, threw a simulated game but has yet to pitch in a big league game this season.UP NEXTRangers: RHP A.J. Griffin will be working on five days rest Sunday after a no-decision Monday at the Angels.Royals: RHP Edinson Volquez is 0-2 with an 8.22 ERA in three career starts against the Rangers, his first club. Vapormax Flyknit Herre Norge . Ivanovic was leading 7-5, 1-0 when Hantuchova withdrew after falling 0-40 behind in the second game. The match started slowly for Ivanovic, who surrendered her first two serves as Hantuchova took a 5-3 lead. Nike Vapormax En Gros . Marincin has played in two NHL games so far this season with two penalty minutes. The 21-year-old has three goals, four assists and a plus-5 rating in 24 games with the American Hockey Leagues Oklahoma City Barons this season. http://www.vapormaxnorge.com/vapormax-dame-norge.html . They were putting most of their energy into a record-setting offensive display. Vapormax Svart Dame Norge . The CFLs leading rusher kept adding to his gaudy numbers this season and scored the winning touchdown with just over two minutes to play. The New Westminster, B.C., native plowed three yards into the end zone for the last score of a heated, see-saw battle between the two teams with the best records in the CFL. Vapormax Hvit Dame Norge . Vancouver Whitecaps and Toronto FC failed to make the postseason while Montreal Impact fell at the first hurdle losing heavily to Houston Dynamo in the Eastern Conference Knockout Round. ATLANTA -- Dustin Johnson launched a drive on the practice range at East Lake and some 320 yards away, saw it take one hop off the green meshing on the fence. Not satisfied, he teed up another and let it fly, this one clearing the fence. This is what makes Johnson so appealing. But its not what makes him so good.Look back to Riviera Country Club on a rainy Wednesday in February, when Johnson finished his pro-am round and headed out to the range to try using a computer model for the first time -- but only for his wedges. He got those dialed in this summer, and he suddenly looks hard to beat.Thats why Johnson is a U.S. Open champion and the No. 1 seed going into the Tour Championship, making him the favorite to win the FedEx Cup and its $10 million bonus.Hes kind of figured out the way hes supposed to play golf now, Brandt Snedeker. You look at him, and he checks all the boxes of what a No. 1 player in the world looks like. Its been fun to watch him evolve into that player.Johnson is coming off a victory in the BMW Championship, his third of the year. But with the points being reset at the Tour Championship, anyone has a mathematical chance of claiming the FedEx Cup, and the top five players only have to win to take home the biggest payoff in golf.THE TOP FIVE: Aside from winning, the goal in three FedEx Cup playoff events leading to Atlanta is to get into the top five. Those are the one who have a clear shot at the $10 million prize.Johnson won the BMW Championship. He is followed by Barclays winner Patrick Reed, Adam Scott, world No. 1 Jason Day and Paul Casey. Missing from that group is Rory McIlroy, who won the Deutsche Bank Championship but wound up as the No. 6 seed.Casey went to No. 5 on the strength of successive runner-up finishes, while Scott went to No. 3 by finishing fourth in all three playoff events.THE HISTORY: This is the 10th year of the FedEx Cup, and if history is any indication, most of the field can stop dreaming about ways to spend $10 million. The No. 1 seed going into the Tour Championship won the first three years -- Tiger Woods twice and Vijay Singh. The No. 2 seed has won the last three years -- Jordan Spieth, Billy Horschel annd Henrik Stenson.ddddddddddddOnly twice has the FedEx Cup champion come from outside the top 10 -- Jim Furyk was No. 11 in 2010, while Bill Haas was at No. 25 in 2011.THE COURSE: The PGA Tour decided to switch the nines at East Lake to make for a more compelling finish. So instead of that long, uphill par-3 closing hole, the finish now is a par 5 in which tee shots have to be in the fairway to have any chance at reaching the green. Theres a pond, but its about 80 yards from the green and mostly comes into play when someone tries to clear it from the rough. It should make for a little more excitement, possibly even an eagle.PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem said last year that if it comes down to the wire and attracts more TV viewers, it will take longer to play a par 5 than a par 3, and the audience might stick around longer. Thats one case of simple math in the FedEx Cup.THE PICK: Still to be determined is the final American to be picked for the Ryder Cup, and the Tour Championship could go a long way in sorting that out.U.S. captain Davis Love III invited Bubba Watson, Daniel Berger and Justin Thomas to Hazeltine over the weekend to play the course, and its clear hes looking at all three of them to return next week when it counts.THE OTHER BATTLE: Dustin Johnson and Jason Day are the leading candidates to be PGA Tour player of the year, which is a vote of the players after the Tour Championship. Day figures he will have to win at East Lake to have any chance, and if he does, he thinks that will be enough to win the vote. That would give him The Players Championship, the Tour Championship, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Dell Match Play, along with being the FedEx Cup champion. It might be enough to win the money title, provided Johnson finishes worse than third.Johnson, meanwhile, is in good shape to win the Vardon Trophy for lowest adjusted scoring average, and his three victories are the U.S. Open, the Bridgestone Invitational and BMW Championship. Advantage, Johnson. At least until the Tour Championship is over. ' ' '
