TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Jimbo Fisher has spent most of the preseason thinking about two quarterbacks he knows fairly well: Ole Miss Chad Kelly and the Seminoles Deondre Francois. The Florida State coach has been working on a game plan to try to contain Kelly while preparing Francois for his first college start. Fisher actively recruited both players, who square off on Monday when fourth-ranked Florida State takes on No. 11 Mississippi in Orlando, Florida. Both quarterbacks have a reputation as strong passers and above-average runners. That might be where the similarities end.Kelly is on many preseason watch lists after he led the Rebels to a 10-3 record last season and a win in the Sugar Bowl. Francois is the second freshman QB to start for Seminoles in the past four seasons, though he will step into the spotlight in his hometown.Kelly can empathize slightly with what Francois might be going through. The Ole Miss starter said the biggest adjustment QBs face making their first start is not really knowing what the speed of a real, live game is going to be.There are no coaches behind you, so instead of 15, 20 people on the field, theres just 11, Kelly said. Any time you get to go out, be the starter and be the man its fun.Francois was recruited out of Bradenton, Floridas, IMG Academy as the nations top dual threat quarterback in 2015. He was redshirted last season but teammates were impressed with how he ran the scout team. When Sean Maguire missed the spring with a broken ankle, Francois put himself into the mix for the starting job with consistent practices and two touchdowns in the spring game. Maguire and Francois began preseason camp with both listed first on the depth chart, but Francois moved to the front after Maguire fractured his right foot on the third day of practice.Fisher has continued to be impressed with Francois poise and how he has been able to control the offense. Its not about being physical and throwing the ball. Youve got to have presence in the huddle, youve got to have presence on the field, youve got have command, Fisher said. I think thats continually growing and Im grinding on him.Francois is the fourth freshman to start an opener for Florida State. The last one, Jameis Winston, also got his first start on Labor Day and ended up doing pretty well.Against Pittsburgh in 2013, Winston completed all but two of his 27 passes for 356 yards and four touchdowns, and also had one rushing. The 41-13 win over the Panthers was the start of a 14-0 national championship season for the Seminoles as Winston became the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy.Francois knows about the comparisons and has not shied away from them.I dont think the lights will be too bright. I believe in my preparation, Francois said during media day. The spring was very important. I earned a lot of trust from older guys, from staying after practice late and putting in extra work. Doing everything I can to put the team in a position to be successful.Francois doesnt have to do it all by himself. Florida State is returning several players on offense, including running back Dalvin Cook, who is a Heisman contender, and wide receivers Travis Rudolph, Kermit Whitfield and Bobo Wilson, who each caught 57 or more passes last season.Florida States preparations have been disrupted a little bit by Hurricane Hermine. The campus closed at 12 p.m. on Thursday and Fisher moved up practice both days. Most of Tallahassee has also been without power since Hermine made landfall early Friday morning.Fisher tried to recruit Kelly in 2013 before he decided to go to Clemson. A couple stops later, Kelly found a home at Ole Miss with eight 300-yard passing games and a school record 4,542 yards of total offense. The Florida State coach said the Seminoles will need to pressure Kelly with a disciplined pass rush where defenders remain in their lanes.I mean, you rush crazy and give him run lanes, thats where he makes tons of plays scrambling, getting the ball down the field and keeping his eyes up, Fisher said. Here are his mid-season NBA awards. MVP: (KEVIN DURANT-Thunder) - Has been sensational this season and more importantly, the most consistent player in the league. Considering that his team has been without star guard Russell Westbrook and with the free agent departure of sharpshooter Kevin Martin, hes had to carry the majority of the load to not only keep his team afloat but more importantly, at an elite level. Barry Bonds Pirates Jersey . Dallas hasnt ruled out the star quarterback for Sunday nights game against Philadelphia, but all signs point to Romos back injury pushing Kyle Orton into the starting role after two years of limited play as the backup. Surely Ortons name isnt the first that comes to mind for fans wanting a change after years of damaging interceptions, fumbles or, most infamously, the field goal flub when Romo dropped the snap on a kick that could have won his first playoff game in 2006. http://www.pittsburghpiratesprostore.us/Dave-Parker-pirates-jersey/ . The Masters champion and winner of last weeks Australian PGA has a three-round total of 14-under 199 at Royal Melbourne. "Im in a really good position for tomorrow," Scott said. Jung-ho Kang Jersey . Robredo, ranked No. 16, bounced back from an upset loss to Leonardo Mayer in the second round of the Royal Guard Open in Chile last week to down Carreno Busta in 1 hour, 25 minutes. On a day filled mostly with qualifying matches, fifth-seeded Marcel Granollers of Spain also entered the second with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 win over Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia, while Guido Pella of Argentina defeated Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain 7-6 (6), 6-4 to advance. Francisco Cervelli Jersey . Francis told several hundred members of the European Olympic Committees that when sport "is considered only in economic terms and consequently for victory at every cost . Instead of agonizing over why Beholder was unable to win her ninth straight race Saturday in the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar, the proper thing to do is to give credit to Stellar Wind, who engineered this half-length upset. She richly deserves it.Simply put, Stellar Wind ran demonstrably better than Beholder on Saturday. That doesnt mean Stellar Wind is now demonstrably better than Beholder, because it will take more meetings between these two to prove that, and wont we be lucky to witness these two terrific horses hash that out? But on this day, Stellar Wind was better, and heres why:Stellar Wind is a stalker/closer type performer. Beholder has much more positional speed. Beholder held an enormous pace advantage in the Hirsch on paper, and to let that advantage play out in the actual running would have been tantamount to conceding the race. With that in mind, much credit goes to Stellar Winds connections and especially her jockey, Victor Espinoza, for taking Stellar Wind out of the comfort zone of her established running style, and not just allowing Beholder her giant paper tactical advantage. Espinoza hustled Stellar Wind out of the gate, niggled on her down the backstretch, and hard-sent her midway on the far turn, all just to stay on Beholders flank and apply as much pressure as they could. And all the while, Beholder was running as easy as you please, setting fractions that were completely unremarkable.Stellar Wind ran hard every step of the Hirschs 1-1/16 miles, so it speaks volumes to her quality that she was still able to prevail. Then again, her Hirsch win was, as upsets of 1-10 shots go, more a surprise, and not as severe as a shock. It was a surprise only because few went on record beforehand predicting this outcome. But it was not a shock, for while Beholder is a three-time champion, Stellar Wind, last years Eclipse Award winning 3-year-old filly, is a champion, too.As for Beholder, Saturdays effort was not her best race, and we are reminded yet again that these horses we watch and bet on are not machines. But in no way do I subscribe to the theory that is floating around out there that the outcome of the Hirsch was an indication that Beholder has suddenly slipped past her prime, and is, at age 6, now looking up at Stellar Wind. Not nearly yet, anyway. After all, it was only weeks ago when Behholder toyed with Stellar Wind in the Vanity.dddddddddddd For all she has accomplished, Beholder has certainly earned the right for opportunities (yes, plural; she has earned that) to make amends, something else champions have an uncanny knack of doing.Quick notes* The level of gamesmanship amongst the three jockeys who opposed Flintshire in Saturdays Bowling Green Stakes at Saratoga was off the charts. Their attempts to bottle up, box in, and generally make life as miserable as possible for the 1-10 Flintshire were blatantly obvious, not unexpected, and ultimately unsuccessful. The three horses who opposed Flintshire - Grand Tito, Twilight Eclipse, and Canthelpbelieving - just werent even remotely good enough to execute this strategy, and hope to capitalize.Flintshire, as his odds suggest, was supposed to win the Bowling Green, which was merely a bridge to Saratogas Sword Dancer on Aug. 27. Ironically, if Flintshire had a smooth trip in the Bowling Green and won by six, it wouldnt have been nearly as impressive as it was when he overcame his eventful journey with such aplomb.* I dont have positive things to say about the Jim Dandy. Laoban, who couldnt capitalize on as strong a rail bias as you will ever see in the Gotham last March, got his maiden win in the Jim Dandy. This result does not speak flatteringly of Destin, who finished third after a perfect trip stalking Laobans slow pace, or of Mohaymen, who did stumble at the start but did little running thereafter and finished fourth, or Creator, who was compromised by the slow pace but who also never got out of sixth and last.I mean, with the way the Jim Dandy played out, Destin was really, really supposed to win.* A. P. Indian is in raging form right now, and his victory in the Alfred G. Vanderbilt confirms he is currently the top active sprinter in the East.* Right after his most impressive (and heavily bet) maiden romp earlier on Saturdays Saratoga card, I called Theory the most impressive 2-year-old debut winner Ive seen in New York so far this year. Well, after sleeping on it, I have to amend my statement. Theory, by Gemologist and trained by Todd Pletcher, is the best 2-year-old Ive seen in New York so far this year, period. ' ' '
