BISMARCK, N.D. -- North Dakota State University President Dean Bresciani said Monday that some text messages he sent regarding heavily criticized and now-rescinded media guidelines for covering Bison athletics were not appropriate.Bresciani in a campus-wide email also continued to maintain that he wasnt consulted on the guidelines that were roundly panned by journalists and on social media before NDSU scrapped them after just four days.Bresciani said he was at a funeral out of state when the guidelines were made public, but the explosive reaction on social media ... quickly made me aware (of) them. Also Monday, state Board of Higher Education Chairwoman Kathleen Neset said in a statement that the board is investigating the controversy and will consider next steps as soon as possible. The board has already delayed extending Brescianis contract and said he needs to work on teamwork, communication and collaboration. This new development is serious and consistent with communications issues the board previously identified in Dr. Brescianis improvement plan, Neset said. The short-lived media rules issued July 29 primarily involved restrictions on live broadcasting, internet streaming and social media posts at sporting events for media outlets that didnt have contracts to broadcast basketball and football games. NDSU -- whose football team is the five-time defending Football Championship Subdivision champion -- issued a follow-up statement the next day saying the conditions were needed to protect the commercial interests of stations paying the Fargo school for exclusive rights to TV and radio broadcasts.Three days later, on Aug. 2, NDSU issued a statement rescinding the guidelines. It said Bresciani had not been informed of the guidelines in advance, and quoted him as saying I was profoundly disappointed when I learned the facts about this issue.Text messages from Bresciani to Athletic Director Matt Larsen late on July 29 and early on July 30 that were obtained by blogger Rob Port appeared to contradict Brescianis profoundly disappointed mood.In one text about a newspaper reporters response to the new rules, Bresciani wrote Larson, to make you smirk. In another exchange, Larsen wrote that he was going to circle the wagons with staff, to which Bresciani replied that he thought it was a good idea.Bresciani in his Monday email acknowledged initially supporting the guidelines.I now understand that my initial support was misplaced and some of my text communications were not appropriate, he wrote. In another text the day before the guidelines were rescinded, Bresciani told Larsen to control the spin and to own the decision as yours not something you were told you had to do. He added that he would back the athletic director.NDSU spokeswoman Laura McDaniel said Monday that during that exchange, Bresciani was coaching Larsen on how to approach a possible meeting with upset media members about potential changes to the guidelines. She acknowledged that control the spin was a bad word choice, but that it was absolutely not (Bresciani) saying, `You tell everybody this is your fault. In the schools Aug. 2 statement rescinding the guidelines, Larsen apologized, said he erred in not bringing these ideas forward for the presidents review and regretted the damage this has caused NDSU and its administration.Larsen did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday.State Rep. Mark Sanford, R-Grand Forks, chairman of the state Legislatures Interim Higher Education Committee, said Monday that he thinks the guidelines were ill-advised.Thats kind of the heart of all of this, he said.A Fargo newspaper has publicly called for Bresciani to resign. Sanford declined to comment on whether he thought NDSU needed new leadership, saying Brescianis future is up to the state Board of Higher Education.---Follow Blake Nicholson on Twitter at: http://twitter.com/NicholsonBlake Wholesale NBA Jerseys . For Indians of a certain age, the name evokes one memory: the first ball of West Indies innings in the semi-final of the 1998 ICC Knockout in Dhaka. West Indies are chasing 243, and Wallace smacks Javagal Srinath for six, just like that, over long-off.Wallace chuckles when you ask what he was thinking.I would just say that if the ball comes down on a certain line and length, Im going to hit the ball, because I like hitting the ball straight, you know? he says. I believe when a batsman is in good form, hitting the ball straight shows form and control. And once the ball came down on that line and length, I just hit straight through the ball, I came down to the pitch. I just hit straight through the ball and it went for six, and it was, here we go again. At 46, Wallace doesnt look like the hulking, power-packed opening batsman he used to be. His build has softened around the edges, and a pair of spectacles give him a studious, almost lawyerly air. Which is appropriate, because he is studying for a University of London law degree through the international programme at the College of Legal Studies in Chaguanas, 18km from Port-of-Spain.I came here to do some work, and then I decided, look, lets study, Wallace says. Law was it, because I worked 11 years in the Ministry of International Business. I worked for Corporate Affairs and Intellectual Property at home in Barbados for 11 years before I decided to come over here. And I got into studying and Im a student now. Student of cricket and student of law. And I enjoy both, I enjoy both of them. Ive made some good friends here, and I like what Im doing.Wallace says he had been thinking of life beyond cricket even when he was still playing.Yeah, when I captained my country, I was working, and I was studying too. I did a paralegal [course] as well. Combined all three. I was not a freak, but thats what I did. Because at the end of your playing days, you have to look for something to do, a career. Not all of us are good enough to get into television or even radio, so a cricketer needs to advance himself outside of cricket, and sometimes its best to go the academic way, and then you can marry the two, because sports and academics, theres a marriage, and I just want to use myself as an example for younger cricketers, to say, look, when you stop playing cricket, your world is not over. Theres something beyond the horizon once you put your mind to it.It is day one of the fourth West Indies-India Test at Queens Park Oval. Play has been called off, and Wallace is the last person still around in the Constantine Stand. Just to be here makes me feel good, he says, and to see cricket live rather than on television. I think its fantastic.Wallaces international record is modest: seven Tests, 33 ODIs, averages of 21 in both formats. But there was one major ODI triumph, that ICC Knockout tournament in 1998, in which he scored 79 against Pakistan, 39 in that semi-final against India, and 103 in the final, which West Indies lost to South Africa. In his three matches in that tournament, Wallace scored 31.53% off the runs he made in a 33-ODI career.ddddddddddddAt that time our trainer was Dennis Waite, and he got us very fit, and I thought the pitches in Dhaka were fantastic, Wallace says. And I just trusted myself. You know, we had a good team, and my job was to go out there and get runs, and the pitches were good and I backed myself to play the shots that I know how to play.In Tests, he promised briefly to form a long-term opening partnership with Clayton Lambert. The two averaged 72.40 as an opening pair, and added 82, 72, and 167 in the home series against England in 1998. But that high was immediately followed by the low of the 1998-99 South Africa tour, in which Wallace made a highest score of 21 in eight innings. He never played a Test match again. I look back at my career as not too bad, he says. Yes, I could have played more than seven Test matches, but the competition was a lot tougher. Thats why it hurts me to see guys like Leon Johnson being put out of position, and playing [as opener], because they will say he is no good, but hes batting out of position.I went into West Indies cricket as an opening batsman, and I opened the batting. Full stop. You couldnt tell me, bat at four. That would never have happened. Youre picked to open, you open. I came out of Barbados an opening batsman, thats what you do for the West Indies. Unfortunately, it is not happening this way [now] because we are a little short in those areas. But I think that when you look back, you can say Ive done something at the time that was good. I had a partnership with Clayton Lambert, you know, we really did well against England, we went to South Africa and werent so successful and it was cut in half, but Im proud of what Ive achieved in cricket.Where Wallace was all stillness, refusing even to tap his bat until the bowler had jumped into his delivery stride, the left-handed Lambert was a croucher and shuffler with an opeParramattas salary cap woes are almost over with the club agreeing to release troubled star Kieran Foran from the remainder of his NRL contract.Fridays development comes as the Eels and the NRL are believed to be close to striking a deal to ensure the club doesnt appeal the loss of 12 competition points for salary-cap breaches. It is understood the governing body is considering reducing the $1 million fine to try to stop the standoff heading to the Supreme Court and finally bring an end to the long-running saga. The Eels are closer to freeing up their books, wiping off what had been left of Forans lucrative $5 million, four-year deal.It is unknown whether the club agreed to the $200,000 severance package reportedly requested this week by Forans management. The Eels announced their decision to release Foran on Friday afternoon in a short statement on the club website. The Parramatta Eels have today granted Kieran Foran a release from the remainder of his contract with the club. The Eels wish him well for the future, the statement read.Earlier on Friday, Eels coach Brad Arthur was resigned to losing Foran after the New Zealand international officially requested a release earlier this month.Arthur was considered instrumental in luring Foran from Manly over the summer in what was trumpeted as the greatest signing in Eels history. But his stint in blue and gold lasted just seven games before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in round 12. He also missed time after checking into a rehabilitation clinic in April. His release is the latest blow for Eels fans in a disastrous 2016 that has included the cap saga, the subsequent sacking of club executives and Corey Normans sex tape and drug charges.Asked if it would be tough to see Foran walk away, Arthur said: Look, its not tough.Kierans got to do whats best for him, for his health. Im supportive of that. Ive got 38 other players here that I need to focus on.Pressed on whether hed be disappointed seeing Foran in another jumper, he said: Thats up to Kieran. The upside: Forans departure leaves the Eels flush with cash within their salary cap to hit the free agent market, which could include code-hopping superstar Jarryd Hayne. The club have also yet to re-sign off-contract players Corey Norman, Isaac De Gois, Danny Wicks, Vai Toutai and Jeff Robson. However, despite the introduction of an interim board last week, Arthur said he was still unsure when he could begin signing players for the 2017 season. We dont have any clarity around the cap at the moment. We cant do anything until we get that ... Its not ideal but it is what it is. We just have to move on, he said. Fake NMD . The team says the Spain international has a muscle pull in his right leg.
