BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Ricky Stenhouse Jr. drove in a car and wore a helmet Sunday that reminded him of the life of one of his best friends. He almost gave him the ultimate tribute.Stenhouse came up one spot short as he finished second in the Sprint Cup race Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway.It has been an emotional two weeks for the Roush Fenway Racing driver, who knew from the moment he saw Bryan Clausons accident Aug. 6 that his friend was hurt badly in a crash at the Belleville (Kansas) Midget Nationals. Clauson died the next day.In honor of Clauson, Stenhouse wore a pink helmet adorned with autism awareness logos and Clausons photos. He used the paint scheme that Clauson had with sponsor Fastenal when he drove in the Xfinity Series in 2008.I know Bryan was watching and wanting us to win tonight, and we gave it all we had, said Stenhouse, who still seeks his first career Sprint Cup win.Clausons fiancée, Lauren Stewart, and her family attended the race, which was suspended after 48 laps Saturday night and resumed late Sunday afternoon.Rain delays are good for some things, Stenhouse said. We all got to hang out together and spend some more time together, and that definitely has been helping us a lot the last couple weeks.Stenhouse had spent considerable time with Clausons family during NASCARs off weekend as he went to the Knoxville (Iowa) Nationals, where one night he drove Clausons sprint car during the pace laps and then drove it into Victory Lane prior to the start of the feature event. Stenhouse also went to the familys private funeral Thursday.The 27-year-old Clauson was leading the Belleville race Aug. 6 when his car flipped several times and then was hit by another car after it was stopped on the track. Clauson earned 112 USAC feature victories during his career, and he was on pace to compete in 200 events -- including the Indianapolis 500 -- this year.All he wanted to do was race, Stenhouse said about Clauson.
