Kent 55 for 0 (Bell-Drummond 30*, Dickson 19*) trail Worcestershire 211 (Clarke 69, Claydon 5-42) by 156 runs Scorecard Sam Billings became only the second Kent wicketkeeper to take seven catches in an innings while paceman Mitch Claydon bagged his best championship figures for the county as the hosts dominated the opening day of their Specsavers County Championship clash with Worcestershire.Having bundled the second-placed visitors out for 211 inside 74 overs, Kent went in at the close on 55 without loss to trail by 156 runs going into the second day of this 165th Canterbury Week match. In the 80 minutes through to stumps Kents openers Daniel Bell-Drummond (30*) and Sean Dickson (19*) suffered few alarms and will go into the second day with power to add. After a mid-day start, permitted under ECB regulations following Kents final Royal London Cup qualifying game at Hove on Tuesday evening, the hosts elected to bowl first after winning the toss at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.Visiting openers Daryl Mitchell and George Rhodes were given a stern examination by Kents new ball pair of Matt Coles and Darren Stevens who conceded only one run off the bat in the opening seven overs.Emergency opener Rhodes finally got underway after 43 minutes and 27 balls faced when he nudged a single off Stevens through backward point off a thick outside edge.Mitchell became the only casualty of the morning session when he followed a Coles leg-cutter to edge behind as a combative first session ended with the visitors on 63 for 1.Kent bossed the mid-session claiming six wickets - four of them during Claydons 20-ball purple patch of four for nine. Having added six to his lunchtime score, Fell was squared up on the back-foot by Coles to be caught behind for 34, then Rhodess 160-minute stay as emergency opener ended when he pushed at one from Claydon to also edge behind.Billings claimed his fourth catch of the day when Kohler-Cadmore gloved an attempted hook shot against a Claydon bouncer. Ten runs on, left-handed Whiteley drove hard at Claydon only to be caught in the gulley by on-loan Nottinghamshire all-rounder Will Gidman, two-handed and diving away to his left. Claydon then enticed Cox into a rash shot outside off that resulted in a fifth catch for Billings.Billings made it six when Joe Leach (16) nicked a push-drive against Gidman, but Joe Clarke lightened Worcestershires gloom by raising his 81-ball 50 with seven fours just before tea. After the interval Ed Barnard (25) gave off-spinner James Tredwell the charge to lose middle stump, then Kyle Abbott drove hard at Claydon to be caught behind and spark further Kentish celebration. Claydons 5 for 42 were his best since joining from Durham in 2013 while Billings joined Steve Marsh as the only Kent gloveman to have taken seven or more catches in an innings.Tredwell wrapped the innings up, having Clarke caught at slip for a top-scoring 69 from 124 balls faced. The best description of what the Alabama-Auburn football rivalry is all about was given to me many years ago by Gene Stallings, who coached the Crimson Tide from 1990-97.They talk about the Alabama-Auburn game on New Years Day. They talk about in on Memorial Day. They talk about it on the Fourth of July. They talk about it on Labor Day. They talk about on Thanksgiving. They talk about it on Christmas Day. They talk about it 365 days a year. And if youve never lived in the state of Alabama you cant possibly understand. That about sums it up. No college football game in my memory is so ingrained into the daily life of a state. And Ive often said that to call Alabama-Auburn a football rivalry is to vastly understate what it actually is: It is a culture war and the people of the state just use football to fight it.The games have become so famous that they can be summarized with just a few words:Pick Six.Punt Bama PuntBo Over The Top.There so many dramatic and historic moments, in this rivalry:1989: The first time the game was ever played at Auburns Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn upset No.2 Alabama 30-20 and knocked the Crimson Tide out of a chance at the national championship.1985: Van Tiffins 52-yard field goal on the last play of the game to give Alabama a 25-23 win in Birmingham.2010: Auburn rallies from a 24-0 deficit to beat Alabama 28-27 in Tuscaloosa on the way to a national championship. On Saturday there will be another showdown between these two storied programs. Alabama (10-0) is again No. 1 and has a clearly-defined path to another national championship. Auburn cant win a championship but the Tigers could spoil it for their hated rival, which is just as sweet.I cant wait. Here are some other SEC story lines to watch on this Rivalry Weekend:?Tennessee (8-3, 5-3) lost its chance to go to Atlanta when Florida won at LSU last Saturday. But the Vols could finish 9-3 and get a very nice bowl trip if they can go on the road and beat a very tough team from Vanderbilt (5-6, 2-5).It would be Tennessees first nine-win regular season since 2007, when the Vols reached the SEC championship game. But keep in mind that Vanderbilt has been a tough out for just about everybody. The Commodores five SEC losses have been by 3, 7, 7, 7, and 9 points. They just manhandled Ole Miss 38-17 last week. They beat Georgia in Athens 17-16. This will be a tough, hard-fought, game. After a gut-check of a win (16-10) last Saturday at LSU, Florida (8-2, 6-2) is headed back to the SEC championship game for a record 12th time. Before focusing on Alabama there is the rather large matter of playing No. 14 Floorida State (8-3) in Tallahassee.ddddddddddddhis is not only an important game for bragging rights, but winning it would keep alive Floridas long-shot hopes of making the College Football Playoffs. If Florida?could beat LSU (on the road), Florida State (on the road), and No. 1 Alabama in successive weeks the Gators would be the SEC champions at 10-2.??Speaking of Ole Miss (5-6, 2-5), it will be senior day in Oxford for the annual Egg Bowl with Mississippi State (4-7, 2-5). This has been a disappointing season for an Ole Miss senior class that has been to a New Years Six bowl in each of the past two seasons. But a lot of those wounds would be healed by beating the Bulldogs and earning a bowl trip. For Mississippi State, life after Dak Prescott has not been a lot of fun. Beating the rival the Bulldogs affectionately call That School Up North would make the offseason a little brighter.Ray Goff, the former Georgia quarterback and head coach, once told me that Georgia Tech is absolutely Georgias biggest rival. If you dont believe it, just trying losing to them sometime, said Goff.Georgia has won 13 of the last 15 meetings with the team they call The North Avenue Trade School but the last loss to the Yellow Jackets really sticks in the craw of the Bulldogs. In that game Georgia led 24-21 with only seconds left. But Georgia Tech kicked a 53-yard field goal on the last play of the game and then won in overtime 30-24. It was one of the most gut-wrenching losses of the Mark Richt era (2001-2015) era at Georgia.A win would give first-year coach Kirby Smart wins over two of Georgias biggest rivals. Thats important. After an 0-2 start Kentucky (6-5, 4-4) rallied and has become eligible for its first bowl trip since 2010. Mark Stoops should get some SEC Coach of the Year votes. The only thing that could make this season sweeter for the Wildcats would be to knock off their state rival in Louisville (9-2). Louisville, ranked No. 11 and was in the national championship discussion until losing to Houston on Nov. 17. The Cardinals probably have an Orange Bowl bid in hand. How excited will they be to play this game?South Carolina (6-5, 3-5) is in the same boat as the Gamecocks travel to No. 4 Clemson (10-1).South Carolina has won four of its past five games since taking the redshirt off of freshman quarterback Jake Bentley. The Gamecocks have already qualified for a bowl. Beating the state rival would put the perfect finish on Will Muschamps first year as head coach. ' ' '
