Mississippi State pulled off one of the stunners of last weekend by upsetting then-No. 4 Texas A&M 35-28.But that may have served as a wake-up call for Alabama, which hosts the Bulldogs at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala., at noon ET Saturday with ESPN cameras looking on.At the very least, it gained the unranked Bulldogs (4-5, 2/3 SEC) some respect from the No. 1 Crimson Tide (9-0, 6-0 SEC).I think it does, definitely, Tide cornerback Marlon Humphrey said. I know Mississippi States had a lot of close games that theyve lost.To beat Texas A&M, that must mean theyre doing something right. I think that actually might help our mindset, just to know that theyre a pretty good team. Theyve got as many scholarships as we have, so theyve got good players, too. You just cant take anybody lightly. In nearly every major statistical category, Mississippi State ranks sixth or lower in the SEC. But coach Dan Mullens Bulldogs do field the No. 4 rushing offense in the league with an average of nearly 227 yards per game and 5.4 per carry.Quarterback Nick Fitzgerald ran for 182 yards and two touchdowns in the win over the Aggies, and sophomore running back Aeris Williams rushed for a career-high 140 yards, his first career game in triple digits.Dan has done a great job there for a lot of years, Alabama coach Nick Sabansaid. Weve always had some really difficult games, and that will be our expectation in this game.Just for the record, Bama has won the last eight games in the series, with seven of the wins by double digits. The lone exception was two years ago in Tuscaloosa when the Tide beat the Bulldogs 25-20.Alabama is the only SEC team Mullen has never beaten during his eight years with the Bulldogs, who have failed to score a touchdown during the first three quarters in their last three trips to Tuscaloosa.Theyre hard to simulate in practice because theyve got guys on their bench that nobody else even has on their roster, Mullen said. You cant simulate the talent that theyre putting out there on the field at practice. Both teams have new starters at quarterback this season.Freshman Jalen Hurts took over in the second game of the season for Alabama and has passed for just over 187 yards a game and rushed for nearly 70. He scored the games only touchdown in last weeks 10-0 Tide win at LSU on a 21-yard scramble. For Mississippi State, sophomore Fitzgerald has taken over for Dak Prescott (now starting for the Dallas Cowboys) and, just like his predecessor, is leading his team in rushing. Fitzgerald has rushed for an average of over 93 yards per game and completed passes at a 56.3 percent clip for another 189 yards per game. Its pretty obvious with their win over Texas A&M how good they are playing right now, Saban said. Their quarterback has played really well for them all year. Hes kind of the center of what they do in terms of how much he runs the ball and his effectiveness as a runner, as well as being a very effective passer. The Bulldogs also have the SECs leader in touchdown receptions in wide receiver Fred Ross, who has nine among his 54 catches for 641 yards.Fred Ross is a very good receiver and an outside threat that can create explosive plays for them, Saban said.Alabama also has outstanding receivers in Calvin Ridley, who has 46 receptions for 520 yards, and ArDarius Stewart, who has 31 for 527. Together they have nine touchdown receptions. Oh, and running backs Damien Harris, Josh Jacobs and Bo Scarbrough have combined to rush for 1,486 yards, an average of 165 a game. This is a big week, a huge challenge for our guys, Mullen said. They have the No. 1 offense and defense in the SEC. There are not a lot of weaknesses on their roster. They have guys that are sitting on the bench that would start for most teams in the country. You have to come out and play a very clean game.Nike Shox Outlet Cheap .B. -- The Baie-Comeau Drakkar took over sole possession of first place atop the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League on Thursday with their sixth straight win. CLEVELAND -- Pretty much everything about Stephen Strasburgs return from the disabled list went well except the result. Washingtons ace right-hander allowed one run and one hit in five innings, but the Nationals offence did nothing to support him in Sundays 2-0 loss to the Cleveland Indians. "I felt really good and definitely could have gone for a few more innings, but they didnt want me to," he said. "It was good to be out there after two weeks." Strasburg (3-6) was activated before the game and made his first start since May 31 when he strained a muscle in his back. He showed flashes of the brilliance the Nationals have become accustomed to seeing by retiring eight in a row at one point and striking out four. Strasburg also showed some of the effects from the layoff by walking four and piling up 82 pitches. "He was a little bit rusty and didnt have his command, but I thought he settled in pretty well," Washington manager Davey Johnson said. "He had a maximum of 80." The only hit Strasburg allowed was costly. Carlos Santanas RBI single with one out in the fourth gave Cleveland starter Corey Kluber the only run he needed. Kluber (5-4) pitched eight shutout innings and escaped three big jams to win for the first time in 11 career starts at Progressive Field. Kluber gave up seven hits, struck out eight and didnt walk a batter. He wiggled out of trouble in the seventh after the Nationals loaded the bases with no outs. Strasburg had gone 2-0 with a 1.17 ERA over a three-start stretch (three earned runs in 23 innings) before exiting his last appearance after two innings against Atlanta. He was placed on the disabled list six days later but was cleared to return following Thursdays bullpen session in Colorado. "I tried to pound the strike zone as much as I could, but it was a little bit hit or miss, which is to be expected," Strasburg said. Strasburg walked leadoff hitter Michael Bourn in the first before Mike Aviles hit into a double play. Jason Kipnis drew the second walk of the inning but Santana popped up. That began a stretch in which Strasburg retired eight straight. "Once I got through the first inning, it started to click," he said. "I got into some trouble when that happened, but it was a good feeling." Kipnis drew a one-out walk in the fourth, stole second and went to third when catcher Jhonatan Solanos throw bounced into centre field. Santanas single up the middle put the Indians ahead. Kipnis sacrifice fly in the eighth scored Clevelands other run. Vinnie Pestano pitched the ninth for his first save of the season. Indians first baseman Nick Swisher, in a 6-for-55 skid, diddnt play because of a sore left shoulder.dddddddddddd Kluber also escaped jams in the fourth and sixth, which were both set up by errors. "I take it pitch by pitch," Kluber said. "Im not thinking too far ahead. Im not thinking if I can get a double play here or a strikeout there. Those things happen as a result of making good pitches." The Nationals went for 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position, a frustrating day. "We had a bunch of runners on third with less than two outs, but we just didnt score," Johnson said. "We had the right guys up." Adam LaRoche struck out with men on first and third and no one out in the fourth. He also bounced into a double play with two on to end the sixth. "I dont like it when we beat ourselves," LaRoche said. "We should have had an easy four runs on the board with the opportunities we had. It seems like we get one or two chances every game where we dont put it in play or hit it to the wrong spot. I wish we had a solid answer for why it keeps happening." Anthony Rendon led off the fourth with a single, then third baseman John McDonald fielded Ryan Zimmermans grounder but threw wide into centre field. Kluber regrouped with runners at the corners and struck out LaRoche, Jayson Werth and Ian Desmond. Denard Span reached on an infield hit and took second on a throwing error by Kipnis at second base in the sixth. Rendons single moved Span to third but Zimmerman struck out and LaRoche hit into a double play. Werth started the seventh with a bloop double to right. Desmond was hit by a pitch before pinch-hitter Steve Lombardozzi popped up a bunt attempt. Kluber tried to make a diving catch but the ball fell in about halfway between home plate and the mound, loading the bases. First baseman Mark Reynolds grabbed Solanos line drive and beat Lombardozzi to the bag for a double play. The inning ended when Roger Bernadina grounded out.
